Playful graphics at the De La Warr Pavilion

Summer project No.4 is a 4-day immersive Arts Award summer school for young carers, at the De La Warr Pavilion. We took our inspiration from the two current (excellent) exhibitions: the innovative graphic design and typographic playfulness of Willem Sandberg and printed and 3D letterforms by Peter Blake. I taught the children various styles of printing and collage, which led on to designing and making individual books about the people/objects and ideas that are most important in their lives. For the books we books used Sandberg’s approach of interleaving tracing paper and overlaying image with type.
